Major CBD Road Closures Expected Tonight for Good Friday and Gather Round Events

Significant City Road Closures for Friday Evening
Commuters and visitors to the Adelaide CBD this Friday, 10 April 2026, should prepare for major traffic disruptions and road closures during the evening hours. A combination of the Greek Orthodox Good Friday Procession and AFL Gather Round festivities will see several primary thoroughfares restricted to vehicle traffic. If you are planning to travel into the city tonight, it is highly recommended to use public transport or allow for significant extra travel time.
- North Terrace: Closed between Victoria Street and King William Road from 9:35 pm to 11:30 pm.
- King William Road: Closed between North Terrace and Pennington Terrace from 3:30 pm to 11:30 pm to facilitate foot traffic for the AFL Gather Round at Adelaide Oval.
- City West Procession: Between 8:00 pm and 10:30 pm, road closures will affect Franklin Street (eastbound), Gray Street, and Waymouth Street.
- Additional Oval Closures: War Memorial Drive will remain closed between the Riverbank Footbridge and King William Road until 11:30 pm.
Public Transport Alerts and Disruptions
Adelaide Metro has issued several alerts for Friday commuters. While the tram network has returned to regular service following earlier maintenance, several bus routes are facing detours. Notably, The Parade in Norwood will experience significant changes starting tonight. From 7:00 pm Friday until Monday morning, detours and stop closures will be in place for routes servicing the Norwood area.
- Holbrooks Road: The long-term closure of Stop 207 is scheduled to conclude today, but commuters should check local signage for final site clearance activities.
- Norwood Detours: Buses will be diverted away from sections of The Parade starting this evening. Please check the Adelaide Metro app for real-time stop locations.
- York Avenue: Clovelly Park residents and commuters should note localized stop closures throughout the day.
Major Arteries and South Road Updates
Heavy traffic is expected on the South Eastern Freeway following a truck incident reported late Thursday. While lanes have reopened, residual delays for outbound traffic may persist into the early morning commute. On South Road, the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) project continues to impact traffic flow around Clovelly Park. Following the successful installation of the first tunnel boring machine cutterhead earlier this month, surface works remain active near the Southern Precinct launch box.
Motorists are advised to observe the 40km/h speed limits currently in place through the Glandore and Clovelly Park work zones. These restrictions are essential for worker safety as site establishment for the southern tunnels ramps up. For those heading south toward Aldinga, the newly duplicated sections of Main South Road are flowing well, providing a much-needed reprieve for Fleurieu Peninsula commuters.
