Morning Commute Overview

Welcome to the Monday morning traffic and transport update for February 16, 2026. Adelaide commuters are advised to prepare for a busy start to the work week, particularly along the South Road corridor and near major public transport hubs. With several long-term infrastructure projects entering critical phases this month and preparations for the upcoming festival season intensifying, planning your route ahead of time is highly recommended to avoid unnecessary delays.

South Road and T2D Construction

The River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) project remains the most significant factor for motorists across the metropolitan area. Major surface-level construction is currently active in the southern and central precincts, specifically around Clovelly Park and Glandore. Motorists should expect speed restrictions and potential lane closures on South Road between Darlington and Anzac Highway as crews work on portal site establishment and utility relocations. Additionally, minor finishing works following the duplication of Main South Road between Aldinga and Sellicks Beach may result in intermittent speed caps in the far south as landscaping and final safety checks continue through the morning.

Public Transport Alerts and Rail Updates

Adelaide Metro has reported several significant disruptions affecting bus routes today. Commuters should be aware of the following notices:

  • Everard Avenue: A detour and stop closure remains in place for routes 241 and 241A. This specific disruption is scheduled to conclude late today, February 16, with regular services expected to resume tomorrow.
  • Main North Road (Pooraka): Stop 34 remains closed for essential passenger safety works. Passengers for routes 228, 228F, 228X, and T228 are advised to use alternative stops as indicated by local signage. This closure is expected to remain in place until late February.
  • Anzac Highway Intersection: The bus stop at the intersection of South Road and Anzac Highway is currently closed for route 248, with disruptions expected to last until Friday, February 20.

For rail commuters, the Adelaide Railway Station is undergoing major technology upgrades. New smart gates are being installed to support the recent introduction of Tap and Pay technology across the network. While train services are running to their regular Monday schedules, please allow extra time to navigate the concourse during the morning peak as some access points may be narrowed for installation work.

Event Impacts and Fringe Setup

Following the conclusion of the LIV Golf tournament at The Grange Golf Club yesterday, local roads in the Grange and Seaton areas are in the process of reopening to regular traffic. However, residual pack-down activity and the removal of event infrastructure may still cause minor delays on Trimmer Parade. In the CBD, preparations for the 2026 Adelaide Fringe are reaching their peak. While the festival does not officially open until Friday, February 20, setup in the East End is well underway. Drivers should be mindful of increased heavy vehicle movement and pedestrian activity around Rundle Road and East Terrace as the major festival hubs near completion.
