Public Notice: Essential City Updates for Saturday, 21 March 2026

2026 South Australian State Election
Today, Saturday, 21 March 2026, marks the South Australian General Election. Polling booths across the City of Adelaide and metropolitan areas are open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Residents are reminded that voting is compulsory for all eligible citizens. The state remains in a formal caretaker period, meaning ordinary administrative functions continue while major policy decisions are restricted until the formation of the next government.
Major CBD Road Closures and Traffic Restrictions
To facilitate the final weekend of the 2026 festival season and various community events, the City of Adelaide has issued several mandatory road closure orders under the Road Traffic Act:
- Fringe Vibes on Hutt Street: Halifax Street, between Corryton Street and Hutt Street, is closed to all vehicle traffic from 5:00 am to 3:00 pm today.
- East End Unleashed: Rundle Street, East Terrace, and Rundle Road remain closed to accommodate high pedestrian volumes near the Garden of Unearthly Delights and Gluttony. These restrictions will remain in place through Sunday.
- Ebenezer Night Markets: Ebenezer Place (between Rundle Street and Union Street) and Union Street (between Rundle Street and Sym Choon Lane) will be closed starting this afternoon to facilitate market stalls and outdoor dining.
- Hyde Street: The Rhino Room’s Fringe Street Party closure between Stockley Alley and Pirie Street remains in effect until 1:00 am Sunday morning.
Motorists are advised to avoid the eastern and northern fringes of the CBD where possible and utilize the Adelaide Metro tram services or alternative parking hubs in the West End.
SA Health: Urgent Public Health Advisories
SA Health has maintained a high-alert status for the metropolitan area following confirmed cases of communicable diseases. Residents are urged to review the following notices:
- Measles Alert: Authorities are monitoring a case of measles in an infant. Residents who visited CMI Toyota on West Terrace, Froth and Fodder Café in Kurralta Park, or the Jai Shiv Fruit and Veg Shop in South Plympton in early March should remain vigilant for symptoms such as fever, cough, and a blotchy rash.
- Invasive Meningococcal Disease: A recent case of serotype B meningococcal disease has been confirmed. Health officials remind the public that symptoms, including high fever and a distinctive purple rash, can progress rapidly and require immediate medical attention.
- Seasonal Influenza Program: The 2026 vaccination program is now active. This year, an intranasally administered live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) is available for children aged 2 to 17 through state-based programs.
Environmental and Park Lands Notice
The City of Adelaide has issued a standing notice regarding the River Torrens / Karrawirra Pari. Parts of the river, specifically the lake section as far west as the weir, are currently closed to primary water contact due to elevated E-Coli levels. Public signage has been installed at Bonython Park and near the University footbridge advising against recreational activities in the water until further notice. Maintenance teams continue to monitor water quality and perform restoration works in the surrounding Park Lands following recent major events.
