Significant Arterial Roadworks and Traffic Shifts

Adelaide commuters should prepare for several major disruptions this Wednesday, 18 March 2026, as infrastructure projects and festival-related adjustments continue to impact key travel corridors. The most significant changes remain centered on the North-South Motorway (T2D) project and essential resurfacing works in the eastern suburbs.

On South Road in Torrensville, a new permanent traffic alignment is now in effect between Ashley Street and the intersection of Ashwin Parade and West Thebarton Road. Motorists are reminded that peak-hour turning restrictions are strictly enforced to manage construction safety. No right turns are permitted from West Thebarton Road or Ashwin Parade onto South Road between 7:00 am and 10:00 am, and again from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Furthermore, northbound motorists on South Road can no longer turn right into West Thebarton Road at any time.

In Everard Park, the Gallipoli Underpass off-ramp connecting Anzac Highway to Eurilpa Avenue is currently reduced to a single lane. These works, which include widening the ramp and relocating utilities, are expected to cause significant bottlenecks during the morning and afternoon peaks. Drivers heading toward the southern suburbs are advised to consider Marion Road or Goodwood Road as alternatives.

Resurfacing works are also impacting Greenhill Road in Burnside. While major asphalt works are occurring overnight, daytime commuters should expect speed restrictions and lane merging between St Albans Drive and the Greenhill Summit Track. Intermittent day works are also scheduled for Torrens Valley Road between Cuddlee Creek and Gumeracha, with localized traffic management in place between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Public Transport Service Adjustments

Adelaide Metro has issued several high-priority alerts for Wednesday commuters. A new detour starts today for Route 248 and 248A services in the Glandore area due to construction at the intersection of South Road and Anzac Highway. These detours are scheduled to remain in place until early April.

  • Route 171: Stop 16 on Fullarton Road (West side) and Stop 16A on Maitland Street (North side) remain closed through the end of today.
  • Hutt Road & Glen Osmond Road: Significant detours for routes 147, 150, 155, 171, 172, 174, 178, and 863 are expected to finish by this evening, but commuters should check for delayed arrival times during the day.
  • CBD Services: Stop F1 on Morphett Street (East side) remains closed for maintenance, affecting routes W90 and W91.

Inner-City Event Closures

In the East End, Vardon Avenue will be fully closed to all vehicular traffic from 2:00 pm until midnight for a private corporate event. This closure will affect local access and delivery services near Rundle Street. Motorists are encouraged to use Grote Street or Wakefield Street for east-west travel across the CBD to avoid congestion associated with the final weeks of the festival season.
