Monday Morning Commute Overview

Good morning, Adelaide. As we begin the work week on Monday, 30 March 2026, commuters should prepare for a series of new service disruptions and ongoing infrastructure projects across the metropolitan area. While major arterial roads like the Southern Expressway are flowing more freely following recent upgrades, significant localized detours and bus stop closures are coming into effect today that will require extra travel time.

Significant Public Transport Adjustments

Adelaide Metro has announced several critical changes starting this morning. Commuters who rely on the following routes should check their schedules before heading out:

  • Marion Road and Anzac Highway: A major new phase of works begins today, Monday 30 March, lasting until Saturday 4 April. This involves significant detours and stop closures affecting routes 248, 248A, and the M44.
  • Duthy Street: Stop 9A on the west side will be closed for the duration of today only. Routes 170 and 172 are currently operating on a detour.
  • Panorama and Flinders Park: Local commuters will face stop closures at Stop 20 and 21 on Fiveash Drive (west side) and Stop 211 on Findon Road (east side) throughout the day.
  • Ingle Farm: New detours and stop closures are in effect on Lamington Street starting today.

Arterial Roadworks and Traffic Shifts

On the roads, several major projects continue to influence traffic flow, particularly in the western and northern corridors:

  • North East Road (Houghton to Inglewood): Intermittent night works for line marking and safety upgrades are scheduled to begin tonight at 7:30 pm. While daytime traffic should remain clear, motorists may encounter speed restrictions and temporary lane closures between Houghton Hollow Road and Blackhill Road.
  • South Road (Torrensville): Traffic remains on the new alignment near the Brickworks Marketplace. Please remember that peak-hour turning restrictions are strictly enforced. There is no right turn allowed onto South Road from West Thebarton Road or Ashwin Parade between 7:00 am – 10:00 am and 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm.
  • Black Spot Programs: Safety works are ongoing at the intersections of Brighton Road and Seacombe Road in Seacliff Park, as well as Darley Road and Gameau Road in Paradise. Expect localized lane narrowing and short delays.

Southern Suburbs Update

In the south, the duplication of Main South Road between Aldinga and Sellicks Beach is now carrying full traffic volumes. However, commuters are reminded that landscaping and minor finishing works are still occurring. Speed limits may be reduced in certain sections to ensure the safety of ground crews. Similarly, the recently opened Majors Road Interchange is fully operational, though caution is advised on the on/off-ramps as final road surfacing treatments settle.

Looking Ahead: Easter Tram Notice

While tram services are running a normal Monday schedule today, all commuters should be aware that the entire tram network will be closed for the upcoming Easter long weekend, starting this Thursday, 2 April. Substitute buses will be in place, so please plan your end-of-week travel accordingly.
