Morning Outlook for Tuesday, 24 March 2026

Adelaide commuters heading into the city this Tuesday morning can expect a significantly improved run from the western suburbs following the official completion of the James Congdon Drive and Sir Donald Bradman Drive intersection upgrade. This $40 million project, which reached its final milestone yesterday, is now fully operational for the Tuesday morning peak. Drivers will have access to three new right-turn lanes from James Congdon Drive onto Sir Donald Bradman Drive, a change expected to reduce local peak-hour delays by up to 30 per cent.

Major Arterial Updates and T2D Construction

While the new lanes in the inner west are a relief, the River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) project continues to impact travel in Torrensville and Glandore. Motorists are reminded of the following long-term traffic arrangements:

  • Torrensville Traffic Switch: South Road remains on its new alignment between Ashley Street and the West Thebarton Road intersection. Peak-hour turning restrictions are strictly enforced; there is no right turn permitted onto South Road from West Thebarton Road or Ashwin Parade between 7:00 am and 10:00 am, and 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm.
  • Glandore Restrictions: Works at the intersection of South Road and Anzac Highway continue to cause lane restrictions. Drivers heading toward the southern suburbs should consider using Marion Road or Goodwood Road as high-volume alternatives to avoid the construction zone.
  • Main South Road: Speed restrictions remain in place between Aldinga and Sellicks Beach as finishing works on the duplication project continue.

Public Transport Alerts for March 24

Adelaide Metro has issued several service alerts specifically for Tuesday, March 24. Commuters using bus services should be aware of the following closures and detours:

  • Anzac Highway: Stop 14 (North West side) is closed today, affecting routes 263 and 265. Passengers are advised to use Stop 13 or Stop 15 instead.
  • Marion Road and Anzac Highway: A temporary stop closure is in effect today for routes 248, 248A, M44, and M44C.
  • Sir Donald Bradman Drive: Stop 6A (North side) remains closed for final works, impacting routes 163, J1, J2, and the AO26.
  • Port Adelaide Area: A new detour and stop closures commence today at Church Street and Dale Street, primarily affecting Route 117 services.

Commuter Advice

With the Adelaide festival season now concluded, CBD traffic has largely returned to normal patterns, though some minor congestion may persist near the East End as temporary event infrastructure is removed. For the smoothest journey today, western suburb commuters are encouraged to utilize the newly upgraded James Congdon Drive lanes, while southern commuters should remain vigilant regarding ongoing bus detours near Glandore.
