Official City Notices: Fringe Road Closures and Public Service Updates
Public Notice: Major Road Closures and Traffic Management
As the city enters the height of the festival season, several significant road closures will be in effect on Friday, 6 March 2026. Residents and commuters are advised to plan their routes in advance to avoid delays. The City of Adelaide and South Australia Police have issued the following traffic management orders:
- Rhino Room’s Fringe Street Party: Hyde Street, between Stockley Alley and Pirie Street, will be closed to all vehicular traffic starting from 2:00 pm on Friday, 6 March. This closure will remain in place until 1:00 am on Monday, 9 March, to facilitate the street festival.
- East End Unleashed: As part of the seasonal Friday night festivities, increased pedestrian activity and temporary lane restrictions are expected throughout the East End. Motorists should anticipate higher-than-normal congestion in the Rundle Street vicinity from 6:30 pm onwards.
- WOMADelaide Infrastructure: Plane Tree Drive (Zones 1-6), Frome Park, and Speakers Corner remain closed to all vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. Additionally, starting Friday, 6 March, the first two rows of the State Herbarium car park on Hackney Road will be reserved exclusively for WOMADelaide accessible parking.
Public Transport and Pedestrian Access
Adelaide Metro has confirmed several service adjustments active this Friday. Commuters using northern suburban lines should note the following:
- Woodford Road Detour: The temporary detour and stop closures on Woodford Road in Elizabeth North are scheduled to conclude on Friday, 6 March. Normal services for routes 440 and 443 are expected to resume following the completion of works.
- Tram Network: All tram lines, including the Glenelg to City route, are currently operating on a full schedule. The Botanic Gardens tram stop remains the recommended drop-off point for those attending events in the Park Lands.
Health and Community Advisories
Public health and safety remain a priority during high-traffic periods. Following recent local incidents, the following advisories are in place:
Northern Suburbs Air Quality: Residents in Bolivar and those traveling along the North-South Motorway and Port Wakefield Road should remain aware of residual smoke following earlier vehicle fire incidents. If you have a respiratory condition, it is recommended to keep windows closed and limit vigorous outdoor activity in the impacted area.
Election Caretaker Period: The Government of South Australia is currently in a caretaker period in anticipation of the State Election on 21 March 2026. While essential public services continue uninterrupted, certain community engagement activities and new policy announcements may be restricted until the conclusion of the election cycle.
Waste and Maintenance Schedule
The 2026 Recycling and Waste calendars are now available for download via the City of Adelaide website. Residents are encouraged to use the online Bin Day Checker to confirm their specific collection schedule, particularly in areas impacted by festival-related road closures where collection times may be adjusted to early morning windows.
