Festival Season Road Closures and Access Restrictions

The City of Adelaide advises residents and visitors of significant road closures scheduled for Saturday, 14 March 2026, to accommodate the ongoing festival season and the East End Unleashed event series. These closures are essential for public safety during peak pedestrian activity.

  • East End Unleashed: Major restrictions will be in place from 4:00 PM on Saturday. Rundle Street (between Frome Street and East Terrace), Ebenezer Place, and Vardon Avenue will be closed to all vehicular traffic. From 5:00 PM, closures will expand to include Frome Street (between Tavistock Lane and Sym Choon Lane) and East Terrace.
  • Ebenezer Night Markets: Specifically for Saturday night, Ebenezer Place will be restricted from 2:30 PM to 11:59 PM, and Union Street will be closed from 4:00 PM to midnight.
  • Rhino Room Fringe Party: Hyde Street, between Stockley Alley and Pirie Street, remains closed throughout the day and into Sunday morning to facilitate sanctioned street performances.

Motorists are encouraged to use Grote Street or Wakefield Street as alternative east-west routes. Dedicated taxi ranks and rideshare zones have been established on the eastern side of East Terrace to manage transport demand.

Adelaide Metro Service Adjustments

Due to the East End road closures, several bus routes will be diverted starting from 5:00 PM on Saturday, 14 March. The following services are affected:

  • City Connector: Routes 98A, 98C, 99A, and 99C will undergo detours, bypassing several stops on East Terrace and Grenfell Street.
  • East End Routes: Routes 140, 141, 142, and 144 will use alternate stops along North Terrace.

Commuters are advised to check the Adelaide Metro website for real-time updates and to allow additional travel time for CBD transit.

Public Health Advisories

SA Health remains on high alert following official notifications issued earlier this week. Residents are urged to maintain vigilance regarding the following health concerns:

  • Measles Warning: Health authorities are monitoring potential exposure sites following a confirmed case in an infant. While specific exposure dates occurred in early March, the public is advised to watch for symptoms including fever, cough, and a blotchy rash over the coming days.
  • Meningococcal Alert: A recent case of Invasive Meningococcal Disease (Serotype B) has been reported in the region. SA Health reminds parents to ensure children are up to date with state-funded vaccinations.
  • Influenza Program: The 2026 Seasonal Influenza program is now active. For the first time, a live attenuated intranasal vaccine is available for eligible children aged 2 to 17 through state providers.

Upcoming Council Activities

The City of Adelaide recently concluded a CEO Briefing regarding the 2026/27 Business Plan, focusing on the revitalization of main streets including O’Connell and Hutt Streets. Community members wishing to provide input on upcoming capital works or infrastructure projects are invited to attend the next public session of the Finance and Governance Committee scheduled for Tuesday, 17 March, at the Adelaide Town Hall.
