Public Notice: Major Traffic Restrictions for AFL Round 4
The City of Adelaide has issued several mandatory road closure orders for Friday, 3 April 2026, to accommodate AFL Round 4 activities at the Adelaide Oval. Motorists and commuters are advised to plan alternative routes as significant delays are expected in the northern CBD and North Adelaide sectors.
- War Memorial Drive: Closed between the Riverbank Footbridge and King William Road from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
- King William Road and Street: Northbound lanes of King William Street between Currie Street and North Terrace, and King William Road between North Terrace and Pennington Terrace, will be closed from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
- North Terrace: Eastbound lanes between Victoria Street and King William Road, and westbound lanes between Pulteney Street and King William Street, will be closed from 9:10 pm to 11:00 pm.
- Additional Closures: Short-term restrictions will apply to Sir Edwin Smith Avenue, Victoria Drive (between Kintore Avenue and King William Road), and Festival Drive.
Participants within these closed zones during specified times are exempt from Australian Road Rules regarding pedestrian behavior, while emergency vehicles maintain priority access.
Adelaide Metro Service Disruptions
Adelaide Metro has announced several planned detours and stop closures active this Friday, 3 April 2026, due to ongoing infrastructure maintenance and the Good Friday holiday schedule:
- Marion Road and Anzac Highway: Major detours remain in place for routes 248, M44, and AO23 until 4 April.
- North Adelaide: Stop closures and detours are in effect at Hill Street and Strangways Terrace for routes 98A, 98C, and 251-254.
- Ingle Farm: Detours continue on Lamington Street affecting route 229 services.
Health and Safety Advisories
SA Health reminds residents of current standing advisories and active 2026 programs. The 2026 School Immunisation Program is currently underway, with services specifically targeting Year 7 and Year 10 students. Parents are encouraged to ensure consent forms are updated for the upcoming school term.
A standing water quality notice remains for the River Torrens (Karrawirra Pari). The lake section, extending as far west as the weir, is currently closed to primary water contact due to elevated bacterial levels. Recreational activities involving water contact are discouraged until further notice.
Infrastructure and Capital Works
Work continues on the Melbourne Street Revitalisation project in North Adelaide. Construction of new wombat crossings is scheduled to proceed through the holiday period with localized traffic management in place. Additionally, intersection upgrades near local schools are currently in the final stages of the Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program to enhance student safety.
Community Holiday Events
As today marks the start of the Easter long weekend, several public events are officially underway:
- Adelaide International Kite Festival: Commencing at Semaphore Foreshore and Beach, running daily from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- Adelaide Easter Carnival: Operating in Modbury through April 6.
- Easter at the Zoo: Extended holiday hours and special programming are active at the Adelaide Zoo.
