Council Administration and Civic Meetings

The City of Adelaide reminds residents and stakeholders of the scheduled CEO Briefing taking place today, Tuesday, 24 March 2026. The confidential session is set to commence at 6:00 PM in the Colonel Light Room at the Adelaide Town Hall. While the specific agenda for this briefing remains confidential, it follows the recent South Australian General Election held on March 21. As the state remains in a formal caretaker period, ordinary administrative functions continue; however, major policy decisions are restricted until the official formation of the next government. Members of the public are advised that while the briefing is held in a closed session, the outcomes of non-confidential council business are regularly updated on the city's official transparency portal.

Urgent Public Health Alerts

SA Health has issued high-priority advisories for the metropolitan area that remain active today. Residents are urged to maintain vigilance following confirmed cases of communicable diseases identified throughout March.

  • Measles Alert: Authorities are monitoring multiple cases of measles, including an infant who had not recently traveled. Residents who visited locations such as CMI Toyota on West Terrace, Froth and Fodder Café in Kurralta Park, or the Jai Shiv Fruit and Veg Shop in South Plympton earlier this month should remain alert for symptoms. These include fever, cough, and a characteristic blotchy rash. Vaccination with two doses of the MMR vaccine remains the most effective protection.
  • Invasive Meningococcal Disease: A health alert remains active regarding serotype B meningococcal disease. Parents and caregivers should monitor for signs such as high fever, headache, neck stiffness, and a distinctive red or purple skin rash that does not fade under pressure. Early medical intervention is critical as the disease progresses rapidly.
  • Seasonal Influenza Program: The 2026 vaccination program is now fully operational across South Australia. This year's program features a needle-free intranasal vaccine option for children aged 2 to 17, available at participating general practices and respiratory clinics.

Environmental and Park Lands Notice

The City of Adelaide has issued a standing environmental notice regarding the River Torrens / Karrawirra Pari. Due to elevated E. coli levels identified in recent water quality testing, the lake section of the river—extending as far west as the weir—is currently closed to all primary water contact. Public signage has been installed at Bonython Park and near the University footbridge advising against recreational activities involving water immersion. Monitoring continues daily, and the restriction will remain in place until bacterial levels return to safe standards for public use.

Infrastructure and Post-Festival Restoration

Following the conclusion of the 2026 Adelaide Fringe and the final 'East End Unleashed' events, major restoration works are underway in the Park Lands. The Department for Environment and Water advises that Plane Tree Drive, Frome Park, and Speakers Corner are undergoing turf restoration and infrastructure removal. While most pedestrian access has resumed, some sections of Botanic Park remain cordoned off to facilitate the safe use of heavy machinery. Motorists should anticipate minor traffic management near the Adelaide Oval precinct as the city transitions from festival season to the standard winter sports schedule.
