Official Public Notice: Emergency Services Exercise and CBD Traffic Roundup

Official Public Notice: Multi-Agency Emergency Exercise and CBD Traffic Restrictions
The City of Adelaide and South Australia Police (SAPOL) advise residents and visitors of a significant multi-agency deployment exercise taking place on North Terrace this Sunday, 29 March 2026. Conducted in partnership with the SA Ambulance Service, Metropolitan Fire Service, and SA Health, the exercise will occur at the Adelaide Convention Centre and surrounding precincts.
- Activity: Members of the public may observe emergency vehicles, personnel with simulated injuries, and lifelike mannequins. This is a controlled training exercise; there is no cause for alarm as there is no risk to the community.
- Road Closure: North Terrace (eastbound lanes only) between George Street and Victoria Street will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm.
- Transit Impacts: Adelaide Metro trams will operate at reduced speeds through a designated safety corridor, and commuters should expect a modified frequency through the area.
AFL Match Day and Community Event Road Closures
To facilitate the AFL Round 3 fixture between Port Adelaide and West Coast at Adelaide Oval, several road closures will be implemented to ensure safe pedestrian movement for fans and locals.
- Adelaide Oval Precinct: From 9:00 am to 4:15 pm, War Memorial Drive will be closed between the Riverbank Footbridge and King William Road.
- Afternoon Restrictions: Between 2:15 pm and 4:15 pm, closures will expand to include King William Road (between North Terrace and Pennington Terrace), Sir Edwin Smith Avenue, and Victoria Drive.
- Neighbour Day: In addition to match-day traffic, Claxton Street (between Gouger Street and Wright Street) will be closed from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm for a local Neighbour Day community event.
Public Health Advisories
SA Health has maintained high-priority alerts regarding communicable diseases in the metropolitan area. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and follow official health guidelines.
- Measles Alert: Following a confirmed case, individuals who visited exposure sites—including CMI Toyota on West Terrace and Froth and Fodder Café in Kurralta Park—earlier this month should monitor for fever, cough, and characteristic blotchy rashes.
- Meningococcal Disease: A red alert remains active for invasive meningococcal disease (serotype B). Parents and caregivers are advised to watch for high fever, neck stiffness, and non-fading purple rashes.
- Seasonal Influenza: The 2026 vaccination program is now active, offering a needle-free intranasal vaccine for children aged 2 to 17 at participating local clinics.
Park Lands and Infrastructure Updates
Maintenance and environmental notices remain in effect for the City's heritage spaces and waterways:
- River Torrens / Karrawirra Pari: The lake section between the university footbridge and the weir remains closed to primary water contact due to elevated E-Coli levels. Recreational water activities are discouraged.
- University Footbridge: Structural repairs are ongoing to address minor cracking. The shared-use pedestrian path is currently blocked on both sides of the river to facilitate safe contractor access.
- State Caretaker Period: Following the recent state election, the City of Adelaide continues to operate under a formal caretaker period. Essential municipal services, including waste management and emergency maintenance, will continue without interruption.
