Public Notice: Adelaide Weekend Road Closures and Safety Advisories

Official City Notice: Festival Season Road Closures

As Adelaide enters the peak of its festival season, the City of Adelaide and SA Police have issued several road closure notices effective for Saturday, 7 March 2026. Residents and visitors are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid delays during these major community events.

  • Ebenezer Night Markets: Ebenezer Place will be closed to all traffic between Rundle Street and Union Street from 2:30 pm until 11:59 pm on Saturday, 7 March. Additionally, Union Street will be closed between Rundle Street and Sym Choon Lane from 4:00 pm until 11:59 pm to accommodate the market stalls.
  • Rhino Room's Fringe Street Party: Hyde Street, between Stockley Alley and Pirie Street, remains closed as part of a continuous weekend permit. The closure is in effect from 2:00 pm on Friday, 6 March through to 1:00 am on Monday, 9 March.
  • WOMADelaide and Botanic Park: Significant disruptions continue around the Botanic Gardens. Plane Tree Drive (Zones 1-6), Frome Park, and Speakers Corner are currently closed to all vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. These restrictions will remain in place until 13 March. The first two rows of the State Herbarium car park on Hackney Road are also reserved for accessible parking for the duration of the event.
  • East End Unleashed: Ongoing weekend closures for the East End precinct are active this Saturday to support increased pedestrian activity during the Fringe and Adelaide Festival.

Public Safety Advisory: Operation Safe Long Weekend

South Australia Police (SAPOL) have launched Operation Safe Long Weekend, which will be active across the Adelaide metropolitan area throughout Saturday, 7 March. This statewide traffic operation targets the 'Fatal Five' road safety offences: drink and drug driving, speeding, distraction, lack of seatbelts, and dangerous road use.

With high pedestrian volumes expected around festival precincts and the Botanic Gardens, motorists are reminded to reduce speed and remain alert. Roadside testing will be conducted at various locations throughout the city and regional transit corridors.

Health and Infrastructure Updates

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has issued an updated safety advisory regarding counterfeit weight loss products claiming to contain GLP-1. Residents are urged to avoid purchasing these unregulated products from unauthorized online sources. Additionally, following a Federal Government announcement on 6 March, Adelaide has been designated as a priority 'hotspot' for a new $115 million aged care capital injection intended to accelerate the delivery of hospital-transition beds.

In the Adelaide Hills, essential asphalting works continue on Torrens Valley Road. While major closures occur at night, intermittent day works are scheduled for Saturday, 7 March, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, which may result in minor lane restrictions between Cuddlee Creek and Gumeracha.

Administrative Reminders

  • City of West Torrens Rate Rebates: Eligible ratepayers must submit their written applications for the 2026-27 financial year by 31 March 2026.
  • Community Consultation: Submissions regarding the current lease proposal for local community facilities in West Torrens remain open until 19 March 2026.
