State Caretaker Period and Governance

Following the South Australian General Election held on Saturday, 21 March 2026, the City of Adelaide and state government agencies continue to operate under a formal caretaker period. While the transition to the next ministry is underway, all essential municipal services—including waste collection, emergency maintenance, and public safety operations—remain fully operational. However, residents are advised that major policy decisions and new community grant approvals are currently deferred until the official formation of the new government is finalized. Council administration continues to manage daily civic duties and public notifications during this interim period.

Urgent Public Health Alerts

SA Health has maintained a high-priority advisory for the metropolitan area throughout late March. Residents are urged to remain vigilant regarding the following communicable disease notifications:

  • Measles Alert: Health authorities are monitoring multiple confirmed cases, including an infant with no recent travel history. Specific exposure sites identified earlier this month include the Lyell McEwin Emergency Department, CMI Toyota on West Terrace, and the Froth and Fodder Café in Kurralta Park. Symptoms to watch for include fever, cough, and a characteristic blotchy rash.
  • Invasive Meningococcal Disease: A red alert remains in effect for serotype B meningococcal disease. Parents and caregivers should monitor for high fever, neck stiffness, headache, and a non-fading purple or red rash. Early medical intervention is critical.
  • Seasonal Influenza Program: The 2026 vaccination program is now fully operational across South Australia. A needle-free intranasal vaccine option is available for children aged 2 to 17 at participating general practices and respiratory clinics.

Roadworks and Transport Disruptions

Significant infrastructure projects are impacting travel times across the city and hills today, Friday, 27 March 2026:

  • Kangarilla Road: Today marks the final scheduled day of major works between Clarendon and Kangarilla. The road is reduced to a single lane between Harper Road and Brooks Road with active traffic management in place. Motorists should expect delays.
  • North-South Corridor (T2D): Surface-level works continue in the southern, central, and northern precincts. Permanent traffic alignments are in place on South Road between Ashley Street and West Thebarton Road.
  • Adelaide Hills: Infrastructure upgrades are ongoing in Crafers, including the installation of a new wombat crossing on Main Street between Cox Place and Piccadilly Road.

Environmental and Park Lands Notice

The City of Adelaide has issued a standing notice regarding the River Torrens (Karrawirra Pari). Due to elevated E. coli levels detected in recent water quality testing, the lake section between the university footbridge and the weir remains closed to all primary water contact. Public signage is in place at Bonython Park advising against recreational activities involving water immersion. Additionally, restoration works continue in Botanic Park following the recent festival season, with certain sections cordoned off for turf rehabilitation.
