Public Notice: Easter Sunday Service Adjustments and Transport Alerts

Public Holiday Notice: Easter Sunday
The City of Adelaide advises residents and visitors that Sunday, 5 April 2026, is observed as the Easter Sunday public holiday. In accordance with the Public Holidays Act 2023, most government administrative offices and community centers will be closed. While many hospitality venues in the CBD and North Adelaide remain open to accommodate holiday visitors, retail trading hours in the Greater Adelaide Shopping District are subject to public holiday restrictions. Significant changes to local services and transport are in effect to facilitate essential infrastructure works and holiday observances.
Major Transport Alert: Full Tram Network Closure
Adelaide Metro has issued a critical public service announcement regarding a total network closure of all tram lines. From the first service on Thursday, 2 April, until the last service on Monday, 6 April 2026, the entire tram network—including the Glenelg (GLNELG), Botanic Gardens (BTANIC), and Festival Plaza (FSTVL) lines—will be out of operation. This closure is required to complete final finishing works for the Tram Grade Separation Projects.
- Substitute Services: High-frequency substitute buses (GLN1 and BTAN1) will replace all tram movements. Buses will operate approximately every 10 minutes during the day and every 15 to 20 minutes in the evening.
- Stop Changes: The Festival Plaza tram stop will not be serviced during this period. Passengers are directed to use substitute bus stops located at nearby North Terrace and King William Street intersections.
- Reopening: Regular tram services are scheduled to resume from the first service on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.
Public Health Advisory: Measles Awareness
SA Health continues to urge public vigilance following an increase in measles notifications across the state in early 2026. Health authorities have maintained a high-alert status due to international travel clusters and a decline in regional vaccination rates. Residents are encouraged to verify their immunization records, particularly those born during or after 1966 who may require a second dose of the MMR vaccine. Symptoms to monitor include fever, cough, and a distinctive red rash. If symptoms develop, patients should contact their GP or the healthdirect line before attending a clinic in person to prevent further transmission.
Community Notice: Easter Farmers' Markets
The Easter Farmers' Markets will proceed at the Adelaide Showgrounds on Sunday, 5 April, between 8:30 am and 12:00 pm. Due to the aforementioned tram closures, visitors are encouraged to utilize substitute bus services or alternative parking arrangements. Localized traffic management may be in place around the Wayville precinct to ensure pedestrian safety during the event. Looking ahead, the City of Adelaide also advises that preliminary road closures around Adelaide Oval will commence shortly to prepare for the AFL Gather Round, scheduled for 9–12 April 2026.
