Public Notice: Essential City Updates and Health Advisories for Tuesday, 31 March

Public Health Alerts: Measles and Meningococcal Vigilance
SA Health continues to urge the Adelaide community to remain vigilant following the identification of a third confirmed case of measles this month. Health authorities are monitoring individuals who may have been exposed at specific locations, including CMI Toyota on West Terrace and the Froth and Fodder Café in Kurralta Park. Residents who are not fully vaccinated with two doses of the MMR vaccine are advised to monitor for symptoms such as high fever, cough, and a characteristic blotchy rash. If symptoms develop, it is critical to contact a GP via telephone before visiting in person to prevent further transmission.
In addition to the measles alert, a high-priority advisory remains in place regarding invasive meningococcal disease (serotype B). Parents and caregivers are reminded to check for signs of high fever, neck stiffness, and a distinctive purple rash that does not fade under pressure. Simultaneously, the 2026 Seasonal Influenza program is now active, offering a needle-free intranasal vaccine for children aged 2 to 17 at participating local clinics.
Roadworks and Traffic Management
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) has scheduled essential safety works for Tuesday, 31 March. Motorists should anticipate disruptions on North East Road between Houghton Hollow Road and Blackhill Road. Night works involving the installation of audio tactile line marking (ATLM) will occur between 7:30 pm and 6:00 am. Intermittent road closures and speed restrictions will be in place to ensure the safety of work crews.
Adelaide Metro has also confirmed several service adjustments effective this Tuesday:
- Gorge Road: Stops 25 and 26 will be closed on Tuesday, 31 March, and Wednesday, 1 April, necessitating local detours.
- Fiveash Drive: New detour and stop closures commence today at Stops 20 and 21 in Panorama.
- Ashley Street: The temporary stop change at Stop 7 (North side) concludes today, Tuesday, 31 March.
- Ingle Farm: Ongoing detours remain in effect on Lamington Street for routes 229, 229F, and 229X until 7 April.
Environmental Notice: River Torrens Water Safety
The City of Adelaide maintains a standing environmental notice for the River Torrens (Karrawirra Pari). Recent water quality testing has identified elevated E. coli levels in the lake section of the river, extending from the University footbridge to the Torrens Weir. Consequently, this section remains closed to all primary water contact, including swimming and rowing. Signage is prominently displayed at Bonython Park and other key access points; residents are urged to avoid any recreational activities involving immersion until further notice.
Civic Services and Administrative Deadlines
Following the recent South Australian State Election, the government remains in a formal caretaker period. While ordinary administrative functions continue, major policy decisions are restricted. Additionally, the South Australian Government Gazette reminds all departments and public bodies that notice submissions for the upcoming Thursday publication must be emailed by 4:00 pm today, Tuesday, 31 March.
