State Caretaker Period and Governance

Following the South Australian State Election held on Saturday, 21 March 2026, the City of Adelaide and state agencies remain within a formal caretaker period. While the transition to the next government is underway, all essential municipal services—including waste management, emergency maintenance, and public safety operations—continue as scheduled. However, major policy decisions and new community grant approvals are currently deferred until the formation of the new ministry is finalized.

Public Health: Communicable Disease Alerts

SA Health has issued high-priority advisories for the metropolitan area. Residents are urged to maintain vigilance following a third confirmed case of measles in an infant with no recent travel history. Health authorities have identified several exposure sites from earlier this month, including the Lyell McEwin Emergency Department, CMI Toyota on West Terrace, and the Froth and Fodder Café in Kurralta Park. Symptoms to watch for include fever, cough, and a characteristic blotchy rash.

Additionally, a red alert remains in effect for invasive meningococcal disease (serotype B). Parents are advised to monitor infants for high fever, neck stiffness, and a non-fading purple rash. To support community health, the 2026 Seasonal Influenza program is now fully operational, offering a needle-free intranasal vaccine for children aged 2 to 17 at participating local clinics.

Adelaide Metro: Service Disruptions

Commuters are advised of several public transport adjustments active on Wednesday, 25 March 2026:

• Chandlers Hill & Bluehills Road: Detours and stop closures are in effect today for route 733 due to local infrastructure works.
• Sir Donald Bradman Drive: Stop 6A (North side) remains closed for ongoing maintenance, affecting routes 163, J1, J2, and AO26 services.
• Easton Road: Stop 70 (West side) is scheduled for closure through the end of today, affecting routes 451 and 488.
• South Road & Anzac Highway: Significant detours continue for routes 248 and 248A to facilitate major road upgrades.

Environmental and Park Lands Update

The City of Adelaide has extended a standing notice regarding the River Torrens / Karrawirra Pari. Due to elevated E-Coli levels, the lake section between the university footbridge and the weir remains closed to primary water contact. Recreational water activities are discouraged until further notice. Meanwhile, restoration works in Botanic Park are in their final stages following the festival season, with Plane Tree Drive now reopened to pedestrians and cyclists.

Community Consultation: Street Renaming

The Council is moving forward with the formal consultation process to rename a section of Queen Street in the CBD to Sister Janet Mead Way. This initiative honors the late musician and founder of the Adelaide Day Centre for Homeless Persons. Impacted residents and businesses are encouraged to review the proposal on the City’s engagement portal and provide feedback before the current planning phase concludes.
