Public Notice: Service Adjustments and Infrastructure Works for Easter Monday, 6 April 2026

Easter Monday Public Holiday Observance
The City of Adelaide officially observes the Easter Monday public holiday today, 6 April 2026. While the city remains a vibrant destination for visitors during the long weekend, residents are advised that several administrative and community services are modified. Standard business operations for the City of Adelaide will resume at 9:00 am on Tuesday, 7 April.
Major Infrastructure: Full Tram Network Closure
A critical public notice remains in effect regarding the total closure of the Adelaide tram network. To facilitate essential finishing works for the Tram Grade Separation Projects, all tram lines—including the Glenelg, Botanic Gardens, and Festival Plaza routes—are suspended until the end of service today. Normal tram operations are scheduled to restart with the first service on Tuesday morning.
- Substitute Services: High-frequency substitute buses (GLN1 and BTAN1) are operating in place of trams. These buses will stop as close to existing tram stations as safely possible.
- Frequency: Buses are scheduled to run every 10 minutes during the day and every 15 to 20 minutes throughout the evening to accommodate holiday commuters.
Public Transport and Parking Regulations
Adelaide Metro rail and bus services are operating on a Sunday/Public Holiday timetable today. Commuters using the Gawler, Seaford, and Outer Harbor lines should check revised schedules before traveling. Regarding city transit, on-street parking across the CBD is subject to holiday conditions. While many metered bays do not require payment today, time limits in various zones and all 'No Standing' or 'Loading Zone' restrictions remain active and will be enforced to maintain safety and traffic flow.
Waste and Recycling Collections
In a departure from some surrounding regional schedules, the City of Adelaide has confirmed that kerbside waste, recycling, and green organics collections will proceed as normal today. Residents in the CBD and North Adelaide who have a scheduled Monday collection should place their bins on the kerbside by 6:00 am. East Waste has also confirmed that collections for its member councils will remain unchanged for this public holiday.
City Facility Closures
The following council-operated facilities are closed today, 6 April:
- The Adelaide City Council Customer Centre at 25 Pirie Street.
- Adelaide City Libraries, including the City Library (Rundle Mall), North Adelaide, and Hutt Street branches.
- The Minor Works Building and all other neighborhood community centers.
The Adelaide Aquatic Centre is open but operating under restricted holiday hours. For any urgent council-related emergencies, such as public safety hazards or fallen trees, the after-hours emergency line remains available 24/7.
Public Health Advisory
SA Health reminds the community that the 2026 Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Program is now fully active across South Australia. With the autumn season underway, residents are encouraged to contact their local GP or pharmacy to arrange vaccinations. Additionally, health authorities advise that while many general practices are closed for the holiday, Medicare Urgent Care Clinics across the metropolitan area remain open to treat non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses.
