Public Notice: St Patrick’s Day Safety, Festival Traffic, and Health Alerts

Public Notice: CBD Traffic Management and Event Advisories
The City of Adelaide advises residents and commuters of significant activity and minor road restrictions within the CBD for Tuesday, 17 March 2026. While the major road closures associated with the weekend’s festival peak have been partially lifted, several specific notices remain in place:
- Victoria Square North: A public notice has been issued for the Charshanbeh Souri (Iranian Celebration and Rally) taking place this evening from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Commuters should expect increased pedestrian traffic and minor localized delays around the northern end of Victoria Square.
- East End Precinct: As the Adelaide Fringe enters its final week (concluding March 22), motorists are reminded that while major thoroughfares like Rundle Road have reopened for weekday transit, some minor infrastructure removal and site maintenance continue. Please exercise caution near Rymill Park and Rundle Park.
- St Patrick’s Day: Significant pedestrian activity is expected throughout the afternoon and evening, particularly around Hindley Street and Hindmarsh. Public transport users are encouraged to plan ahead as services near major venues, including The Gov, may experience high demand.
SA Health: Continuing Vigilance for Measles and Meningococcal Disease
SA Health has extended its health advisory following confirmed cases of measles and invasive meningococcal disease (serotype B) earlier this month. Authorities are urging the public to remain alert for symptoms:
- Measles Alert: Following a confirmed case in an infant, individuals who visited exposure sites in the metropolitan area (including Kurralta Park and Plympton) should monitor for fever, cough, and a blotchy rash. If symptoms develop, please contact your GP via telephone prior to arrival to prevent further transmission.
- Meningococcal Disease: Residents are reminded that early medical intervention is critical for meningococcal disease. Look for symptoms such as high fever, headache, neck stiffness, or a distinctive purple skin rash.
- Autumn Vaccination: The 2026 Seasonal Influenza program is now officially active. For the first time, a live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) is available for children aged 2 to 17. Booking via local clinics is recommended ahead of the cooler months.
City Governance: Public Committee Sessions
The City of Adelaide invites community members to attend the public session of the Finance and Governance Committee, scheduled for this evening, Tuesday, 17 March, at the Adelaide Town Hall. Key agenda items include the 2026/27 Business Plan and upcoming infrastructure revitalization for main streets. Public gallery seating is available from 5:30 pm.
Infrastructure and Parklands Restoration
Restoration efforts continue within Botanic Park following the conclusion of recent major events. While Plane Tree Drive and Speakers Corner have largely returned to public access, some areas remain fenced for turf recovery and garden bed maintenance. Additionally, ongoing works on the North-South Corridor (T2D) continue to impact South Road; motorists are reminded that the right-hand turn into West Thebarton Road remains permanently restricted.
