Public Health Advisories

SA Health has confirmed that the 2026 Seasonal Influenza Immunisation Program reaches a significant milestone today, Wednesday, 1 April 2026. As of this morning, all remaining federally funded influenza vaccines are available for order by local providers. This year’s program introduces a needle-free intranasal vaccine option for eligible children aged 2 to 17, designed to increase uptake among younger residents. Health officials urge high-risk groups, including those over 65 and individuals with chronic medical conditions, to schedule their appointments early to ensure peak immunity before the winter season.

In addition to the flu program, a high-priority measles alert remains active across the Adelaide metropolitan area. Authorities are monitoring a confirmed case involving an infant with no recent travel history. Residents who visited exposure sites in Kurralta Park and West Terrace in late March should remain vigilant for symptoms including fever, cough, and a blotchy rash. Furthermore, a red alert for invasive meningococcal disease (serotype B) continues; parents are advised to seek immediate medical attention if a child displays a high fever and a non-fading purple rash.

Environmental and Park Lands Notice

The City of Adelaide has issued a standing environmental notice regarding water quality in the River Torrens (Karrawirra Pari). Due to elevated E. coli levels detected during recent routine testing, the lake section of the river—spanning from the University Footbridge to the Torrens Lake Weir—remains closed to all primary water contact. Recreational activities involving water immersion are strictly prohibited. Public signage is currently in place at Bonython Park and along the northern bank to notify visitors of the restriction while monitoring continues.

Traffic and Transport Updates

Commuters are reminded that a major federal adjustment to the fuel excise takes effect today, Wednesday, 1 April. The excise has been halved as part of a coordinated national response to global supply volatility, which is expected to provide immediate relief at the pump for Adelaide motorists. The State Government continues to monitor local fuel distribution to ensure regional and metropolitan supply remains stable.

Looking ahead to the upcoming weekend, the City of Adelaide has published advance notices for road closures related to AFL Round 4 activities. While major closures around Adelaide Oval are scheduled for Friday, 3 April, motorists are advised to plan alternative routes now. Key affected areas will include War Memorial Drive and King William Road. Additionally, the new South Road alignment in Torrensville is now fully operational, though minor finishing works continue in the vicinity of the North-South Corridor (T2D) project site.

Council Services and Public Holidays

  • Waste Collection: Standard waste and recycling collections remain unchanged for this Wednesday.
  • Easter Preparation: Residents are reminded that the Easter public holiday period begins this Friday, 3 April. Most Council administrative offices and the City of Adelaide Customer Centre will be closed from Friday through Monday.
  • Government Gazette: The next official state publication is scheduled for Thursday, 2 April, which will detail further statutory notices and local government regulations.
