Friday Morning Traffic Overview

Adelaide commuters are advised to prepare for a series of localized disruptions this morning, Friday, 27 March 2026. While the CBD remains relatively clear of major event-related closures, significant infrastructure upgrades in the Adelaide Hills and ongoing construction for the North-South Corridor (T2D) project will require motorists to adjust their travel times and routes. For those utilizing the bus network, several key routes in the western and southern suburbs are currently navigating detours due to essential maintenance and road upgrades.

Major Arterial Alert: Kangarilla Road

The most significant impact on regional traffic today is centered on Kangarilla Road in the Adelaide Hills. As part of the $150 million Adelaide Hills Productivity and Road Safety Package, Kangarilla Road is currently reduced to a single lane between Harper Road and Brooks Road. Traffic management will be active from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, though speed restrictions and lane narrows will remain in place outside of these hours. Motorists traveling between Clarendon and Kangarilla should expect delays and are encouraged to allow an additional 10 to 15 minutes for their journey.

South Road and T2D Turning Restrictions

In the western suburbs, the T2D project continues to transform the Torrensville corridor. Commuters are reminded that the new traffic alignment on South Road, between Ashley Street and the intersection of Ashwin Parade and West Thebarton Road, is fully operational. To maintain traffic flow through the construction zone, several permanent and peak-hour turning restrictions are being strictly enforced today:

  • Peak-Hour Right Turns: There is no right turn permitted onto South Road from either West Thebarton Road or Ashwin Parade during the morning peak (7:00 AM to 10:00 AM) and the afternoon peak (2:00 PM to 6:00 PM).
  • Heavy Vehicle Restrictions: Vehicles exceeding 8.8 metres in length are prohibited from turning right from West Thebarton Road at any time; drivers must detour via Port Road.
  • Northbound Constraints: Motorists traveling north on South Road cannot turn right onto West Thebarton Road.

Public Transport and Bus Disruptions

Adelaide Metro has confirmed several service adjustments for Friday. Commuters should check their specific route schedules, as the following areas are seeing active detours:

  • Grange: Stop closures and detours are in effect today at the intersection of Fort Street and Military Road.
  • Southern Suburbs: Route 200B and 200C services are detouring through Panorama Drive and Eliza Place until the end of today's service.
  • Elizabeth/Munno Para: Routes 451, 451A, and 490 are currently detouring around Edgecombe Road for local infrastructure works.
  • Major Intersection Closure: Stop closures continue at the Marion Road and Anzac Highway intersection, impacting the M44 and 248 routes.

All tram lines are currently operating on their standard schedule; however, passengers are reminded that a full tram network closure is scheduled to begin next week for the Easter long weekend.
