Major Navigation Changes on South Road

Commuters heading through Torrensville this Wednesday must remain alert to the permanent traffic alignment now in place as part of the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) project. The section of South Road between Ashley Street and the intersection of Ashwin Parade and West Thebarton Road is operating on newly constructed lanes. To maintain traffic flow through this high-activity construction zone, critical turning restrictions are being strictly enforced. There are currently no right turns permitted from West Thebarton Road or Ashwin Parade onto South Road during the morning and afternoon peak periods—specifically between 7:00 am and 10:00 am, and again from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Additionally, northbound motorists on South Road are permanently prohibited from making a right turn into West Thebarton Road at any time.

Adelaide Hills and Southern Corridor Disruptions

Travelers heading toward the Adelaide Hills should account for significant delays on Kangarilla Road. Following the commencement of major safety upgrades yesterday, Kangarilla Road remains reduced to a single lane between Harper Road and Brooks Road. On-site traffic controllers are managing flow in both directions, but the restriction is expected to cause bottlenecks, particularly during the primary work window from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Residents and visitors to the Clarendon area are advised to allow an extra 15 minutes of travel time.

In the southern suburbs, the Gallipoli Underpass off-ramp remains a significant point of congestion. The ramp connecting Anzac Highway to Eurilpa Avenue in Everard Park is reduced to a single lane to facilitate ongoing utility relocations and widening works. These works are expected to continue through mid-year, making Marion Road or Goodwood Road more reliable alternatives for those traveling south from the city during peak hours.

Public Transport and Bus Stop Closures

Adelaide Metro has issued several high-priority alerts for Wednesday commuters. Major detours continue for Route 248 and 248A services in the Glandore and Plympton areas due to ongoing construction at the intersection of South Road and Anzac Highway. These detours are slated to remain in place until early April, and passengers should check real-time arrival data as several stops along these routes are currently being bypassed.

  • Stop 70 Easton Road: The west side stop is scheduled for its final day of closure today. Normal service is expected to resume on Thursday morning.
  • Stop 6A Sir Donald Bradman Drive: The north side stop remains closed for essential utility works, affecting routes 163, J1, J2, and the AO26.
  • Stop 7 Ashley Street: The north side stop has been relocated slightly to facilitate local infrastructure improvements, impacting routes 286, 287, and 288.

Morning Commute Win: Sir Donald Bradman Drive

While roadworks continue elsewhere, citybound motorists from the western suburbs are seeing the benefits of the newly completed James Congdon Drive and Sir Donald Bradman Drive intersection upgrade. The project has added three dedicated right-turn lanes for traffic turning from James Congdon Drive onto Sir Donald Bradman Drive. This improvement has significantly increased the capacity for vehicles moving into the CBD, offering a much smoother run for the nearly 50,000 commuters who utilize this gateway daily.
