Full Tram Network Reopens Today

Adelaide commuters can breathe a sigh of relief this morning as the entire Adelaide Metro tram network returns to full operation. Following a scheduled closure over the Easter long weekend for essential finishing works on the Tram Grade Separation Projects, services on the Glenelg, Botanic, and Festival lines have officially resumed as of the first service today, Tuesday, 7 April 2026. This reopening marks the end of the substitute bus period that saw commuters navigating the city via the GLN1 and BTAN1 routes for the past five days.

New Bus Disruptions and Local Detours

While rail services are back to normal, several new local bus disruptions have been initiated this morning. Passengers should be aware of the following changes starting today, Tuesday, 7 April:

  • Anzac Highway: A significant stop closure is in effect at Stop 16 on the north side and Stop 15 on both sides of Anzac Highway. Commuters using routes serving this corridor should plan for additional walking time to the nearest active stops.
  • Morphett Road and Stonehouse Avenue: New detour and stop closures have commenced in the Camden Park area. Motorists and bus passengers should expect minor delays due to shifted traffic patterns at this junction.
  • Duthy Street: A specific one-day closure is impacting Stop 9A on the west side of Duthy Street today.
  • Hancock Road and Craigmore Road: Maintenance and infrastructure works have triggered fresh detours and stop closures on these northern routes starting this morning.
  • Hillier Road, Evanston: Stop 172 on both sides is now closed to facilitate local road upgrades.

South Road and T2D Project Updates

The North-South Corridor remains the focus of significant infrastructure activity. Following the successful positioning of the first Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) cutterhead earlier this month, construction crews are active in the southern and central precincts. In Torrensville, the new northbound traffic alignment near the Brickworks Marketplace remains in place. Motorists are reminded that the right-hand turn from South Road into West Thebarton Road is permanently restricted. Heavy vehicles exceeding 8.8 meters are also prohibited from turning right from West Thebarton Road and are being directed to use Port Road instead.

Looking Ahead: Gather Round Preparation

Commuters are advised that while city traffic is flowing smoothly this morning, congestion is expected to build toward the end of the week. Preparation for the 2026 AFL Gather Round will see major road closures around the Adelaide Oval precinct, including War Memorial Drive and sections of King William Road, starting this Thursday, 9 April. If you usually commute through the CBD, now is the time to consider alternative routes for the later half of the week.
